Today I imagine a beautiful love story as I gaze upon this picture. The love between a mother and daughter. A mothers love is one that carries us through life with a smile. Anne Wilson sings a song called “Momma’s”. Her words reside in my heart and mind. They cause me to ponder the importance of my own mother and mother in love in my life.

As I read the story of Ruth and Naomi in the book of Ruth, I see a beautiful love story. Naomi must have been an amazing women. I say this because Ruth chose to follow her into an unknown world. You see, after Naomi’s husband died and she lost her sons who were married to Ruth and Orpah, Naomi made the decision to go back to her people in the land of Judah. When Naomi heard how good things were going in Judah and how the Lord was providing for his people, she decided to return. She released her daughters in law to go back to their families in Moab. Orpah returned but Ruth made the decision to stay with Naomi.

Ruth made a commitment to Naomi in Ruth 1:16. She told her “Where you go, I will go. Where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God will be mine”. I can only imagine the impact Naomi had on Ruth’s life over the years for Ruth to make this commitment to her. The love she had for her mother in law was unconditional. I would venture to say there is much more to this story. I hope to really dive into this story in the near future and study about this beautiful relationship. I want to see every detail of this beautiful Portrait of Love! Because of Ruth’s dedication and love for her mother in law, she had the privilege to part of the lineage of Jesus Christ. This beautiful love story lead to the greatest love story ever, my Lord and Savior, My God, Jesus Christ!
